Welcome to New Middletown Elementary
New Middletown Elementary is a kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school in Southern Indiana.
The school was constructed in 1999 and is a central part of the community. New Middletown’s rural setting includes a small town and several surrounding farms. The community is largely a working class community with many of the parents traveling to larger cities for work.
The town is located approximately thirty minutes northwest of Louisville, Kentucky and eleven miles east of Corydon, Indiana.
New Middletown Elementary is a part of the South Harrison Community School Corporation. The corporation embraces a systemic philosophy, which has each elementary using the same curricular choices for educational programs. The Balanced Literacy Framework for language arts and a state approved mathematics program are currently being used in every classroom. The school uses cross-curricular instruction for science, social studies, and health. New Middletown Elementary is a standards bearer school, and the UbD (Understanding by Design) framework is applied to guide teachers in the design of curriculum, assessment, and instruction outlined by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe in Understanding by Design.
